The David A. Howe Library is excited to celebrate the holiday season with our community

The festivities kick off on Black Friday, November 28, when they will host a Toy, Game, and Puzzle Swap from 3-5 p.m. in the Howe Gallery. They have already started collecting toys, games, and puzzles, so community members interested in passing along gently-used items can bring them to the library’s main desk whenever the library is open. Anyone can bring items, even if they do not attend the swap, and anyone can come to the swap, even if they do not have any toys, games, or puzzles to pass along.

On Small Business Saturday, November 29, the Wellsville Chamber kicks off Hometown Holidays and the library will be joining in the fun. After the parade, there will be pictures with Santa in front of the library and the Lions will light the Christmas trees lining the front walk. Folks will also be able to warm themselves inside the library while enjoying hot drinks, carols, and holiday films until it is time to watch fireworks from the Back Terrace.

Hawk Creek will present their Harry Potter Owls program at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5. On December 6, the Wellsville Village Farmer’s Market will host their annual Holiday Market from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Community Kitchen’s monthly free community meal will be the same day at noon.

Continuing the festivities, Genesee Dance Theatre brings its 11th annual production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker to the Nancy Howe Auditorium for two spectacular performances, bringing together a cast of local dance students and even some Wellsville children as mice. They will perform on Friday, December 12, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, December 13, at 2 p.m. Experience the enchanting Tchaikovsky score brought to life by a company of student and professional dancers. It’s a holiday delight for the whole family! Families are invited to come in before the Saturday performance for the Friends of the Library’s Annual Trim-a-Tree event, which will be in the Howe Gallery from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Both performances are free to the public with support from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Arts Council for Wyoming County, as well as The Friends of the David A. Howe Library, and Anne Currier & George Hrycun. Seating is first-come, first-serve and doors open 30 minutes prior to show time. For more information, visit geneseedance.com.

Andover Ecumenical Choir is next in the lineup. Directed by Marcella Bledsoe, they will present their annual advent concert on Monday, December 15. The concert begins at 7 p.m. All are welcome!

The final events to wrap the holiday season at the library will be a Teen Christmas Party on Friday, December 19, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., and a Noon Year’s Eve Party for kids of all ages to ring in the new year on Tuesday, December 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The library is excited to welcome the community in to celebrate and hopes to make the season brighter for all who come.
