The Golden Eagles and the Wildcats can’t keep up with the Raiders

From Hornell Hight School Athletics,

The Hornell Red Raiders improve to 13-0-2 with back-to-back shutout wins to round out the week.

The Red Raiders celebrated their 11 seniors on Thursday night before taking on fellow LCAA D1 Wayland-Cohocton Golden Eagles in Maple City Park.  In their first meeting on September 25th, Hornell & Way-Co tied 1-1 in a double overtime matchup.  Thursday’s game would determine whether the Red Raiders would claim the LCAA D1 title for the first time in 3 years.

Jim Tobin’s boys came to play.  After a scoreless first half, senior standout Demayne Dixon hit the back of the net off a Ryan Harkenrider corner kick seven minutes into the second half.  Freshman Anatole Colson tallied his second goal in as many games to make the final score 2-0.  “Our boys played a great 2nd half,” said Tobin.  “Demayne’s goal off of Ryan’s corner kick was amazing.  Way-Co played a very strong game.”

With the 2-0 win over Way-Co, the Hornell Red Raiders will end the season as LCAA D1 champs, their first LCAA title since 2022.

Great job Raiders!!!!

After a physical, competitive game Thursday night, the Red Raiders had to travel to Rochester to take on Class AA Wilson / Early College Friday evening.  It didn’t take long for the Red Raiders to get on the board.  At 33:30, Wyatt Evingham crossed to Marco Picco for the first Hornell goal.  The duo would connect again just before halftime to put the Red Raiders up 2-0 going into the break.  Evingham would find the back of the net himself in the second half to give the Raiders the 3-0 win.

“Marco Picco hit two big shots off Wyatt’s assists to lead the way in the first half,” commented coach Tobin.  “We played a tremendous offensive game tonight.  The Rasephei brothers passed incredibly tonight, while Cody Cardamone & Anatole Colson helped us control midfield.”

With Hornell’s win over Wilson / Early College, senior standout goalkeeper, Alfie Whiteley recorded his 6th straight shutout for the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders have one regular season game left before sectional play.  They will host Rochester Prep on Monday night.  Hornell is currently seeded #2 in Section V Class B behind Mynderse Academy (12-2-0).  LCAA’s LeRoy / Cal-Mum (11-3-0) are currently seeded #3 with 2 games left in their season, and Bath Haverling (10-3-0) are the #4 seed with 2 games to go.

After Monday’s game, the Red Raiders will have more than a week without games to prepare for the postseason.  The first round of sectional play begins October 21st.
