William Franklin “Billy” Greene, 53, passed away on Friday (October 3, 2025) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Greene was born on November 10, 1971 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville to William A. and Sheila K. (Skillman) Greene. He was a 1989 graduate of Andover Central School.

Bill worked numerous jobs. From 1992-1998 he worked at Cretekos BP in Wellsville. From 1998-2005 he worked for Adelphia Cable. Bill took care of cleaning and fueling the Rigas airplanes at the Wellsville airport. This was also when the Rigas family owned the Buffalo Sabres. Bill was a part time Allegany County 911 Dispatcher from 2004-2009. He worked since 2005 at Alfred State College as a mechanical maintenance assistant.

In 1996, Bill married Denise M. Greenfield with whom he spent 20 years; together they had four sons Cody Alan, Hunter William, Noah Joseph, and Wryder James—the loves of his life. Bill and Denise split in 2011 but remained great friends to raise their children.

Along with his mother, Bill is survived by all four sons, Cody (Amber) Greene of Hornell, and Hunter (Mackenzie) Greene, Noah Greene, and Wryder Greene, all of Andover; a sister, Stacey (Erik) Taylor and his nephew Dewyn L. Taylor, all of Valparaiso, In.; a grandson, Grayson; several cousins, many nieces and nephews of the heart, as well as a large and loving soul family too numerous to name.

His father, William A. Greene, preceded Bill in death in 2022.

Bill was a life-long member of the Andover Volunteer Fire Department and the Andover Volunteer Rescue Squad, both of which he joined in 1989. He served as secretary for numerous years, as well as Fire Prevention Officer and various other positions. Bill read at Memorial Day services and funeral tributes, set up numerous fundraisers for the department and benefits to help those in need. He started the drumming for marching, and in 1996, 1997, and 1998 was part of Andover Fire History as the team who retired the Allegany County Fireman’s Association Revolving Trophy. They were only the second team to do so in history at that time. He truly bled their motto, “Deeds not words.”

The Andover Haunted House benefited from Bill’s dedicated volunteer work over many years. “The Scare” was everything to him. In 2014 Bill replaced his father as the Announcer for the Andover 4th of July Parade. After a number of years, Bill retired from this; but the generational honor continues as his son, Cody, now fills the post.

He had a passion for music, especially heavy metal, country and Bing Crosby’s Christmas ballads. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He loved to joke and “mess with you” believing “A smile goes a mile.”

Bill lived life fully, the listing of his loves being long and varied, including: sharks, movies, books, music, Big Foot, tattoos, and golfing.

He wrote poetry and songs. One of his poems was published in the 1990’s in a book called “The Book of Poems” sold across the United States. His favorite author was Steve Alten. Bill won a contest where the prize was to be a character in one of Alten’s books. Bill was Sherriff William Green in “The Loch.”

Bill loved family time and he loved his family immensely, especially his Mom and Dad, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins and the newest family member on the way, Grayson William Greene. But the absolute loves of his life were his four boys.

Bill was a firm believer in God and his country. He loved a challenge, loved to be doubted, and always told it like it was. He didn’t believe in lying or two-facing people. Faith, hope, and love are what he lived by.

There will be a time of visitation on Friday (October 10) from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. Bill’s funeral service will be held on Saturday (October 11) at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Andover, with Rev. Christian Mattison officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Brook Cemetery and will include a Fire Department tribute.  Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
