Post 808 American Legion in Belmont was the setting for Catherine Schuyler Chapter NSDAR’s September 18, 2025 meeting. Approximately 35 members and guests gathered for the business meeting. Following this, Bob Budinger and Mallory Short spoke to the group about the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support program in Allegany County.
An interesting program on pollinators and pollinator gardening was given by Martha “Marti” Tillinger from Allegany, NY. Mrs. Tillinger is a Master Gardener and a member of the Olean DAR Chapter, as well as an associate member of Catherine Schuyler Chapter. A walk across the street to visit and admire Catherine Schuyler Chapter’s own nicely established pollinator garden in Belmont’s Legion Park was taken by several.
Following a tea and refreshments, two Quilts of Valor were awarded. A Quilt of Valor (QOV) is a quality, handmade quilt awarded to a service member or veteran who has been touched by war. The quilt says, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” To use the term Quilt of Valor, the quilt must be a specific size, have a label with required information, must be awarded (it is not a gift) and must be recorded.

Receiving QOV’s hand quilted and bound by Catherine Schuyler Chapter’s active group of quilters were Henry Mayo and Jennifer Fuller(pictured.) Mr. Mayo resides in Fillmore; during the Korean War he was in the Air Force and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ms. Fuller served on a Coast Guard search and rescue boat during the Gulf War. She lives in Belmont and is the current Commander of Post 808.
