The Mariotti Family is proud to the new owners of “WBC”
By Andrew Harris
In 2016, four local friends: a retired teacher, a retired NY State Trooper, a lineman, and a banker decided to take a chance on Main Street Wellsville. That gambit was a new concept for Wellsville but known as an anchor for downtown commerce. It was clear from the start of the new venture that one of the main goals was to be part of revitalizing Main Street Wellsville.
Mission Accomplished!!
For almost a decade the Wellsville Brewing Company offered an experience that brought community together. Sure people came for the beer, but they also came to enjoy a fading American experience.
Main Street Wellsville once had a dozen “public houses” each with iconic bartenders, special culinary treats, and an ambiance. By the time the Wellsville Brewing Company came to be, only one bar/pub/tavern existed on Main Street. That lack of downtown traffic was a problem that the foursome wanted to solve by founding what is in the eyes of New York State a “Farm Brewery.”
Shaun Walsh, who made the brewery his “third” career, is proud of the work he and his partners have done for the business and the community:
“I was just Happy that we were able to create a great gathering place for our community. And be part of the revival of our Main St”
Jim Knapp, who has been a Wellsville banking institution onto himself and has served on just about every volunteer board possible had this to say about the end of his era at WBC:
“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support our community has shown throughout the years. The sale of the Wellsville Brewing Company marks a bittersweet moment for us, but it’s the love and loyalty of this town that made our journey so special. Thank you for raising a glass with us, for celebrating life’s moments together, and for being the heart of everything we’ve built—we’ll forever be thankful for you all.” Jim Knapp WBC
The Mariotti family is excited to get started and will be serving beer just as soon as NYS provides a liquor license. The posted this on the WBC Facebook page this week after the transaction was official:
“We will be posting to social media to keep the community aware of the status of the liquor license.
As soon as we receive the liquor license we will begin business at the normal operating hours. Thursday & Friday 3pm-9pm and Saturday 2pm-9pm. Currently on tap we have: Killer Lite, Cuddles Irish Red Ale, Everyday IPA, Hank’s Hefeweizen, Mosaic Sky, Tomah Beer, Citra Alice, Bourbon Brown Ale, Pre-Prohibition Porter, River Ramble, Wells Oatmeal Stout, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter. Currently, we do not have a grand opening scheduled. “
