Will defending champions Mark Joyce and Shane Dunbar repeat ?

From the Ancient Order of Hibernians,

The Allegany County Ancient order of Hibernians (AOH) is again sponsoring our 12th annual Irish Road Bowling Tournament at our Kilbane Road Course in the Town of Andover, NY!  This event is a fun and family oriented event for all ages with first place medals awarded to the 2 person teams with the fewest combined throws in each Division. Participants throw a 28 ounce cannonball as far as they can down the road and the team member spotting marks where the bowl went off the shoulder of the road-the spotter and thrower then alternate throwing and spotting as they work their way through the course.  The AOH Event team again has 5 Divisions including 16 and under, Mens open, Women’s open, Mixed Doubles and Senior teams.

AOH Event Committee member Brian Cannon stated” Our Kilbane Road course, while being relatively straight, has a multitude of undulations and crowns on the road that make it a challenging course even for the veteran road bowlers.   The Course record is 20 combined throws by Andover’s Mark Joyce and Wellsville’s Shane Dunbar” who are expected to be on hand to defend their previous Mens Open Titles.”  The course is approximately 1.25 miles in length and takes about 90 minutes to play a round.  The Andover Road & Gun Club is about Halfway through the course and many spectators go there to get lunch while watching the road bowlers compete on the course.  Cost is $30 for each 2 person adult teams and $20 per each 16 and under aged team.  Bowl deposits are $20 which are refunded at the finish line.  Registration will start after 9 am and go to approximately 3 pm on Saturday June 8th, 2024.

Cannon also “guarantees that participants and spectators will all have a great time-rain or shine at this family oriented event while getting some great exercise in the Allegany Wilds.  The Hills of Southwestern Allegany County are very much like those in the West of Ireland and this weekend’s weather is very much like Ireland as its expected to be in the mid 60’s with a chance of some scattered mists.  The profits from this AOH Fund raiser go to local charities that the local Ancient Order of Hibernians has supported and donated to including The Hart Comfort House of Allegany County, Joyce Family Food Pantry and Outreach Center in Wellsville, Food Pantries in Fillmore and Cuba, NY, Wellsville Little league, Allegany County Cancer Services, Shane Colligan Park in Wellsville and the Independence Historical Society.   The local AOH Division has also started in 2023 awarding $500 scholarships to graduating Seniors to help offset college expenses. Come out and Support the Local AOH Division, get some exercise and have a great time in the Allegany Wilds this Saturday June 8th!  A new style of AOH Irish Road Bowling Shirts will be on sale as well this year by the local AOH Division.  Slainte!
