During our good friend Bob Confer’s morning “read-in,” a feverous consumption of news in the pre-dawn hours, he found a major news outlet had just published a big story on Wellsville.
Just this morning the Wall Street Journal published a sweeping overview of Wellsville’s emergence as a player in the green energy movement. Ljungstrom, which as been called Air-Preheater, Alstom, and ABB over the decades, has become a poster child for reclaiming lost manufacturing glory. In the last eighteen months, the facility has announced a retooling, rehiring, and rebirth in the off-shore wind.
Locals like Tom Hennessy, currently the director of project development at Ljungstrom, are featured in the piece giving first hand accounts of the changes that can be summarized by the stories sub-headline:
“Wellsville, a 20th-century boomtown with a refinery, gets a second act making parts for wind turbines”
