Michael T. Baldwin Reports: Village Tax Increase Draws No Public Participation in Government

You could hear crickets during this week’s village of Wellsville proposed public budget hearing. The spending plan forecasts a tax increase, yet, not one person attended.

Village Treasurer Melissa Mullen said no changes were made after the hearing, noting the proposed budget “is still on course.” The proposed tax levy is still one of the lowest in 13 years. The village board will likely approve the budget Monday night when they meet.

Unchanged from a preliminary draft, the spending plan includes a 1.5% local tax hike. A General Fund budget of $3.5 million hasn’t changed…and no changes are anticipated according to sources.
