Wellsville Village Police charged Haley M. Button, 23 of Little Genesee with second-degree attempted murder, a Class A felony, first-degree assault, a Class B felony and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly stabbing a Wellsville man on Christmas Eve.
Button was arraigned in Wellsville Village Court in front of Justice Brad Thompson and sent to the Allegany County Jail on $50,000 cash bail, a $100,000 property bond or a $200,000 partially secured bond. Button will answer the charges on Jan. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
Wellsville Village Police went to the scene and were assisted by troopers but Button was not in the area. Police issued a warrant for her arrest on Christmas Eve. Button was detained by the Amity-based State Police after a traffic stop in Amity where Welllsville Police say she was a passenger in a vehicle.
On Friday, Dec. 24 around 5:30 a.m., Button allegedly stabbed a Wellsville male she knew in the parking lot of the Wellsville Shopping Center on Bolivar Road.
Wellsville Police confirmed to the Wellsville Sun the victim drove himself from the McDonald’s parking lot to the hospital after being stabbed. He was flown by MercyFlight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital from the Loder Street landing zone.
In a public post on Facebook, the mother of the victim released the following statement. The Wellsville Sun is withholding the name until the arrest affidavit becomes public or the family consents to a further update.
The post said, “As some of you may have heard our son was serious hurt this morning. He was mercy flighted to Strong and rushed into surgery. He will be in ICU for the next few days and then moved to the floor. We are suffering as a family and appreciate your prayers and kind words. There is an investigation going on so please don’t ask for details. (His wife) had nothing to do with this so please respect her as she too is concerned with (his) recovery. I will update my post on (his) progress as we get information. I have faith and believe in prayer and know (he) will pull through this and make a full recovery. Have a Merry Christmas.”
