The 34th Annual Ridgewalk and Run is in the books! The first races of the day started pretty chilly but by the time 25K winner Tim Chichester crossed the finish line temps had jumped into the “extremely pleasant” range.
The team at Jones Memorial Hospital ran a flawless event, drawing crowds from all over the country to run this now famous race founded by Gwyn and Rich Shear in 1992.
Locals dominated the field; runners from Wellsville, Hornell, and Alfred taking many of the top spots in the 25K, 10K, and the packed 5K.
Wellsville runners had an especially strong showing for the hometown event. Wellsville 9th grader Hendrick Scott won the 5K race and comfortably, he was two minutes ahead of Jack Harris who not only took runner-up overall, but 1st place in the under 15y crowd. Nice job guys!!
Hendrick wasn’t the only member of his family to win! His aunt Kristen Hyer won the female division in the 10K race, motivating some of her running mates Bridget Kehrer to win the 30-39y division and Liz Joyce to a top 10 in that race!!
Hornell’s Radka Kaletova was the top female finisher in the 5k, and Shinglehouse runner Jonnie Geiger was the top female in the 40-49y category. Wellsville’s Hollee Nixon took the top spot in the ladies under 15 field while Hornell’s Cynthia Ripple won the 60&over race!!
Wow ladies! Great run!
North Bingham’s Shane Graves was first in his 50-59 division, and Andover’s Dave Burns blazed a #1 finish in the 60&over crowd.
Other local top finishers in the 5K, Belmont’s Anthony Kaminska won his race in the 30-39y division and Wellsville’s Melvin Hamer won the 20-29y pack.
