Starlight Theatre Company performs “Proof” October 2-3-4 in Wellsville

WELLSVILLE, NY: “Proof,” David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, will come alive on stage this upcoming weekend, as the final show in Starlight Theatre Company’s 2026 season of community theatre.
This moving drama will take place October 2nd and 3rd at 7 PM and October 4th at 2 PM at the Grace United Mission Center (formerly the Christian Temple, located at 99 Maple Avenue in Wellsville). Originally performed in 2000 and recently revived on Broadway this year, “Proof” follows Catherine, a young woman coping with being the caregiver for her father, a brilliant but troubled mathematician. When her sister Claire arrives to help settle the family’s affairs, long-buried questions emerge about legacy and the uncertain boundaries between genius, inheritance, love, and trust.
“This is a compelling story about family and the search for certainty,” said director Bella Wenslow. “It asks whether brilliance can be passed down, whether trust can be rebuilt, and how we define ourselves beyond the expectations of others.”
This production of “Proof” stars local actors at the top of their game: Alexa Frank as Catherine, Paul Nelson as Robert, Hilary Gunning as Claire, and Jeremy Howard as Hal. “This is an incredible group of performers and they imbue so much care and emotion into the characters. They are very grounded and strong in their performances and we can’t wait for audiences to experience this show,” added director Wenslow.
Emotional drama + intellectual intrigue + moments of humor = “Proof” … you won’t want to miss it! Because of some mature themes, “Proof” is recommended for audiences aged sixteen and older. The runtime is approximately 2 hours, plus an intermission. Doors open thirty minutes before show time.
