Maintenance Technician Job Description
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Plant Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining production equipment, creating and maintaining jigs, arbors, & fixtures to support production, and facility maintenance. In addition, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks such as preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties:
Assist in addressing and resolving equipment issues as they arise and support production operations to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
- Create, repair and maintain jigs, arbors, and fixtures to support production operations.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization in all maintenance areas.
Perform daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance of production equipment along with routine safety checks.
- Conduct facility-wide inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on mechanical and electrical systems.
- Maintain records of maintenance actions and findings.
- Contact and coordinate with outside contractors when applicable.
- Assist with larger maintenance projects, floor reorganizations, and new equipment installations.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain facility maintenance items to support a safe, efficient workplace.
- Assist with construction, equipment setup, and training on new machinery.
- Diagnose and help repair basic electrical and mechanical issues.
Follow all safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures.
Participate in continuous improvement projects and training to expand technical skills.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Required Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of industrial electricity (3-phase power, wiring, fuses, relays).
- Basic understanding of commercial plumbing.
- Hands-on experience using tools such as multimeters and general hand tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and diagrams (i.e. manuals, schematics, and technical documentation).
Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on production equipment (i.e. solder waves, winding machines, pneumatic hand tools, production ovens, etc.)
- Hands-on experience using tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
Experience operating a forklift.
Qualifying Attributes and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 3—5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Intermediate math skills for interpreting readings, specifications, and dimensions.
Strong operation monitoring and control skills for equipment and systems,
Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for assembling small components.
Positive work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders for various periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull tools and equipment.
- Ability to communicate verbally in person or by telephone.
- Ability to perform precise hand movements and operate intricate tools.
