LIVE: Jazz, Classical, “Buckwheat,” Haudenosaunee storytelling, and Hiroya Tsukatmoto !

With autumn upon us, things are picking up at the Library.
A series of live events kicks off on Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m., with Pocket Vinyl in the Howe Gallery. Watch as Elizabeth Jancewicz completes a beautiful oil painting while Eric Stevenson plays his original music. Eric and Elizabeth have played over 1000 shows, including several here in Wellsville, and released over a hundred songs. At the end of the show, Elizabeth’s original work will be auctioned to the audience.
The very next day, Saturday, September 26, at 7 p.m., in the Nancy Howe Auditorium, Houghton’s Lyric Theatre, under the direction of Amanda Cox, will perform Mozart’s The Impresario, a gloriously chaotic backstage romp where egos are enormous, tempers are short, and everyone is convinced they deserve top billing. Come for Mozart; stay for the drama! Houghton’s Lyric Theatre gives student singers, actors, instrumentalists, technicians and managers opportunities to develop their skills and to create high quality productions that entertain and delight audiences.
Next up is beloved local singer/songwriter, Buckwheat, a.k.a. Eric Scutt, who will perform on Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. This show will be a live play through of his full Rivers Gone Dry album. Part 1 of Rivers Gone Dry is available to stream online. Part 2 will be released in December, but this concert will be a chance to hear all of Part 2 live before it’s released.
Perry Ground, renowned Haudenosaunee storyteller, will make an appearance on Saturday, October 17, at 2 p.m., to present Stories from the People of the Longhouse, a highly entertaining educational program for all ages filled with traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) legends about the beliefs, customs, and history of the Haudenosaunee people that have been passed down for centuries. The Storyteller brings these stories to life through vivid descriptions, rhythmic voicing, an active stage presence, and audience participation. This program is made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Thelma Rogers Genealogical & Historical Society.
Hiroya Tsukatmoto, guitarist and composer, will round out this exciting series of performances on Friday, October 23, at 7 p.m., in the Auditorium. Tsukamoto brings a blend of masterful fingerstyle guitar and evocative storytelling that transcends cultural barriers. Tsukamoto’s concerts are not just musical events; they are immersive experiences that weave lyrical narratives with intricate melodies. Attendees will enjoy enchanting music that promises to resonate long after the final note is played.
Due to illness, the Hungrytown concert scheduled for Thursday, October 1, at 7 p.m., in the Auditorium, has been cancelled.
These shows are all free and open to the public. Buckwheat, and Hiroya Tsukamoto’s performances are made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Wyoming and Allegany counties by the Arts Council for Wyoming County. All performances at the library benefit from the support of the greater Wellsville community.
