The one word everyone tries to avoid — cancer. Did you know that some cancers can be prevented through early detection with a simple screening? There are opportunities out there to help you get these lifesaving screenings, even without health insurance! Kendra McIntyre (2018 Graduate from Whitesville Central School) and Stacy Schwarberg (2012 Graduate from Alfred Almond) are your local Cancer Services Program (CSP) Outreach Coordinators for Allegany, Steuben, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties!
New York State residents should know a CSP is located in every community to help people who don’t have insurance get screened without worrying about having to pay. The Cancer Services Program is a grant-funded program providing cancer screenings free of charge for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers! The CSP serves people without health insurance and who are aged 40 to 64. Men and women ages 45 to 64 can get screened for colorectal cancer with an at-home FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) kit. Women ages 40 to64 can receive free clinical breast exams and mammograms to screen for breast cancer, and Pap tests and pelvic exams to screen for cervical cancer.
If you have a personal or family history of these cancers, have health conditions that increase your risk, or are having symptoms, please contact us right away. The staff of the CSP are happy to help guide you through program eligibility and the screening process.
