Alco Federal Credit Union Awards Scholarships to four standout seniors

Cooke, Calladine, Davis, and Hoover all get a boost for higher education

Each year Alco Federal Credit Union invests in the future of the communities it serves by awarding scholarships to local high school seniors to help finance their college education. A $1000 scholarship was awarded this year to MaKenna Cooke from Wellsville Central School, Colton Calladine from Andover Central School, Jacey Davis from Genesee Valley Central School, and Rhianna Hoover from Belfast Central School.

MaKenna Cooke will be attending Alfred State College in the fall for a Nursing dual degree. She would eventually like to work in a children’s hospital as a pediatric nurse. MaKenna is a scholar athlete participating in swim and indoor/outdoor track. In swim she was the Captain of the Varsity team and won the Coach’s award. She used her swim skills to work as a YMCA lifeguard. MaKenna was recognized with a Leadership Award through BOCES, Wellsville Rotary Student of the Month, as a St Bonaventure Bonnie Scholarship winner and made the High Honor Roll among other awards and honors.  


Colton plans on attending Lineman Training School in Georgia this fall and will work towards becoming a Certified Electrical Lineman. Colton played Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball serving as Captain and receiving All-Star recognition. He was Vice President of his Senior Class and was in the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. He also helped in the community as a youth basketball coach.

Jacey is going to attend SUNY Niagara in the fall. She plans on getting a degree and a Massage Therapy License. She would like to become a small business owner in Allegany County. She has participated in numerous school clubs and committees including Student Council and Yearbook Committee. She has won Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and volunteered with the SPCA and a number of school events. She was able to do all of this while working part-time at Aces Country Cupboard. 


Rhianna is graduating Summa Cum Laude from Belfast. She is committed to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She will be working towards a degree in Radiological Science. Rhianna participated in competitive cheerleading. She made National Honor Society and served on Student Council. She volunteered at Wellspring Ministry and worked at Aces Country Cupboard.

Congratulations to MaKenna, Colton, Jacey and Rhianna for joining the long list of past winners of the John Patterson Memorial Scholarship. Mr. Patterson served for 32 years as Treasurer of Alco Federal Credit Union and was a vital piece in leading the Credit Union to where it is today.

This scholarship is available to any member of Alco Federal Credit Union that is graduating high school and has been a member for at least one year prior to applying. The application deadline is April 30th of your graduating year.
