Family and Friends of Shane Colligan aren’t happy, security footage under review

By Andrew Harris

One of the nicest little spots in the village of Wellsville welcomes anyone to stroll through, take a seat under the gazebo, and watch the world go by. The Colligan family built the little “pocket park” in memory of Shane, who passed away in 2003 after a brave fight to survive against the odds. Shane was born with heart trouble but his spirit, personality, and “big heart,” had a lasting impact on his community.

This morning, Shane’s dad Tim issued this statement with the photograph above:

It saddens us to report vandalism occurred at the Shane Colligan Memorial Park over the last few days.

One of the benches installed in the gazebo was destroyed recently. The Wellsville Police Department was notified and has initiated an investigation. They will be reviewing video surveillance tapes in the area to attempt to identify the responsible parties.

Sadly, that bench was hand built as an Eagle Scout project by Padden Newark and has adorned the park for several years.

We will replace the bench and are considering a reward for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction to whomever did this. Anyone with information should contact the Wellsville Police Department. 585 593 5600

If you know anything about this senseless act of vandalism please contact the Wellsville Police Department. If your information leads to an arrest, a $300 reward is offered.

The community won’t just stand idle while the dregs and druggies and dirtbags ruin and disrespect the place and fixtures that WE ALL enjoy. Much of downtown Wellsville is now under security video surveillance and every effort will be made to arrest and prosecute vandals or thieves.

If you see something, say something. Let’s keep those who refuse to respect others in fear of being held accountable.

Shane Colligan was a special guy, check out this great column by John Anderson last year about Shane, his attitude on life, and accomplishments.
