Summer Kickoff Party is set for Saturday June 6! Live Music by “The Ukuladies”
From David A. Howe Public Library,
On Saturday, June 6, the David A. Howe Public Library will hold their Summer Kickoff Party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.! This event will celebrate the lead up to summer and the ever-popular Summer Reading Program.
The Summer Kickoff, which marks the beginning of Summer Reading registration, is free, open to the public, and for people of all ages. This year, the Ukuladies, a ukulele duo from Alfred, will play live. Everyone who comes will have the chance to decorate a pair of sunglasses for the long-awaited sunny season and the library’s growing collection of lawn games will be set out for play. And, as always, there will be refreshments – cold lemonade and snacks.

The Summer Kickoff will go on whether there is rain or sunshine. As long as rain holds off, the event will be on the Library’s front lawn but, in case of inclement weather, festivities will move into the Howe Gallery.
This year’s Summer Reading theme is Unearth a Story. This theme underscores the joy of discovery that reading brings and reminds us that every person and every community has stories waiting to be found and shared – through books, programs, and local knowledge. This year’s SRP begins June 29 and concludes on August 8 with a Dino Dig event for kids. As always, the library will host many exciting and educational events and programs during the 6 weeks of summer readings, with a heavy emphasis on dinosaurs this year. Participants of all ages will be eligible for a variety of swag and prizes for participating!
