Wellsville senior Andrew Ordiway suffered an ankle injury the second game of the season and the initial diagnosis was his high school career was over. After physical therapy, he was able to return to the Lions lineup on Sunday and delivered a key 2-RBI single, walked twice and stole two bases as Wellsville downed SOTA, 10-5.

Drew Cowburn got the win for Wellsville, striking out three in three innings in relief, giving up two hits while Matt Ritter had the save with a strikeout. Ritter threw just 15 pitches in two innings for the save, aided by two double plays.

Wellsville senior Trenton Green had a home run, double, scored three runs and stole two bases. Green started on the mound for Wellsville and struck out three over two innings. The game started on Saturday and Green was four pitches over the limit to come back and throw when the rain delay game resumed on Sunday at Gates-Chili High School. It was the final game of the Joe LaPietra Strike Out ALS Classic.

Ritter, a senior catcher, had a triple, double and drove in three runs before taking the mound to close with battery mate Ty Rahr behind the dish.

Also for Wellsville (11-6), Paul Giovanniello had two hits, a RBI and scored, Karter Grover, Drew Cowburn and Ashton Sawyer singled, Rahr had a RBI and Huddy Hoffman scored and stole a base.

“Not only was this a great two days for a great cause, both teams got to know each other well during the rain delay and took a group team photo,” said Wellsville coach John Anderson. “Another special moment for us came on Sunday when our 2005 Section V MVP pitcher A.J. Fay showed up to support the team. A.J. is fighting a rare Stage 4 bile duct cancer and summoned up the courage to get to our game, support the team and meet the team. The seniors awarded him with the game ball.”
