Joan R. Ferris, 95, of Angelica, passed away on April 13, 2026 following a short illness.
Born February 6, 1931 in Brockport, she was the daughter of Nellie Bowen Jackson and Willett Charles Jackson. On December 4, 1949 she married Kenneth A. Ferris, who passed away in October of 2012.
They lived in Brockport and in Kendall, and in the 1980s moved to Brooksville, Florida. After her husband’s passing Joan moved to Angelica.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Klein and Celia Ponton; her brother, James Jackson; her daughter, Carol Heveron; and her grandson, Carl Haggstrom. She also was predeceased by in-laws James & Jan Ferris, Randall & Ruby Ferris, Henry Klein, Gus & Eleanor Ritz, and Lyle DeMocker.
She is survived by her sister, Linnett DeMocker; her daughters, Leslie (David) Haggstrom and Virginia Ferris; her grandchildren, Gabriel (Shari) Sloane, John (Mindy) Haggstrom, Margaret (Bryan) Riter, Katharine (Jeff) Sherwood, and Candace (Josh) Clapp; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Raygen, Christian, Ayden, Aria, Stella, Finley, Ryan, Cade, and Easton; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan had a great sense of humor that tended toward snarkiness. She enjoyed her dogs, reading, golfing, bowling, and rousing games of cards and dominos with friends and family. In her later years she liked eating at Ace’s in Belfast and the Modern Diner in Wellsville. She enjoyed family gatherings and summer picnics.
Her artistic interests included needlework and painting Bob Ross-style. She enjoyed her Senecas smokes and an afternoon mixed drink (it’s 4 o’clock somewhere!). Most of all, she loved her family.
Joan was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Brooksville; and attended KonXions United Methodist Church in Angelica.
Calling hours will be on Sunday (April 19, 2026) from 1-2pm, with Funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Angelica, with Rev. Stephen Crowell officiating.
