Driscoll has over three decades of experience in Family, Surrogate, County and Supreme Courts
From Gerald Driscoll for Allegany County Judge,
I am proud to announce my candidacy for Allegany County Court Judge and am excited to bring my diverse legal experience to the position. Judge Parker will be vacating this seat at the end of this year, and I am hopeful that the community will be grateful of his years of service to the community. When I recount my time in private law practice and as a Law Clerk, I believe it is essential for a member of the Judiciary to have the experience of representing clients and appearing in various Courts at the County level and at the local level. The experience of representing clients in matters teaches an attorney to be patient, well-versed in the facts and laws regarding each matter, and to encourage settlements when appropriate.
I have been an attorney for 31 years and have worked in both Allegany and Cattaraugus County. I am currently the confidential law clerk for Allegany County Court Judge Ian M. Jones. Prior to this and for the last nine years, I served as the law clerk for Cattaraugus County Court Judge Moses M. Howden. As law clerk, I have assisted the Judge in handling matters in Family, Surrogate, County and Supreme Courts, and take an active role in working with attorneys and parties in pretrial and settlement conferences.
Before my years as law clerk, I had a general practice where I represented parents, grandparents, and, most importantly, children, in Family Court proceedings. Advocating for a child’s best interest in court has been rewarding for me. I have handled criminal matters, both as defense counsel and as special prosecutor when the District Attorney’s Office has a conflict of interest. I have also represented businesses in transactions and civil litigation. I found that there is no substitute for sitting down face to face with clients and working on legal matters, and in the course, had the pleasure of meeting many residents of Allegany and Cattaraugus County.
On a personal note, I have resided in Wellsville for 23 years with my wife Nancy and our two children, Sean (19) and Megan (13). I am a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and am an avid outdoorsman. I particularly enjoy hunting and fishing.
