Wiser’s Wramblings-Shoveling Snow is as Enjoyable as Lawn Mowing

A special thank you to snow plow drivers who keep us all safe

Well, the Wiser Jinx has reared its ugly head once again. One major aspect of said phenomena is the loss or discontinued availability of things that I like or have found. Hershey’s Almond candy bars have disappeared off the store shelves and are no longer available. The Google search engine explains that the source of the almonds, typically from overseas or Mexico has suffered due to lack of production.

The Walmart in Olean hasn’t had any of the Hershey’s Almond Bars for a few months now. For some occasion, or, for some reason, I visited the Walmart Store in Hornell and managed to find a pretty significant quantity of the smaller “mini or snack size bars. I bought several bags but left a few for other shoppers. I never thought about looking for the Hillshire Farms (HF) “Lil Wieners” at that Walmart. Darn! If they had them then, they probably don’t now.

I’m not surprising anyone when I Wramble about the shortage, or discontinued availability of, that latest favorite product.

This winter has certainly been “more wintery” than most have been over the last few years. I tried to find and/or obtain a picture of a local (Scio or Wellsville) snowplow in action. This “stock” picture pretty much suits my needs as the truck plowing looks quite like that has been close to the same conditions that we have.

Last year spoiled us in that we had very little snow and, if I recall properly, there were no days with below zero temperatures. This weather and snowfall amount has been celebratory for me. I like winter a long as I have snow to play in. Temperatures of 5⁰ or so haven’t kept me “home-bound,” but rather makes it quite comfortable in my old insulated Zero Zone coveralls. My 1st preference is shoveling and or pushing the 36” wide “snow pusher” to push the snow to either side of the driveway. My 2nd preference would be to use my “snow bladed” John Deere “Lawn Tractor” to take long path plowing from the main (Back River Road), and to push it along beside the garage where I build a pile, just as I have done on the sides of the road that clears snow away from the mailbox and pushes the driveway bordering snow off both sides. I like snowplowing, similarly to lawn mowing as it gives a visible sign of accomplishment.

Once again, having lost track of what I had previously done relative to MS Word Manipulation I had to re-learn how to create and use “shortcut keys” to simplify writing anything, and especially this something. Prior to my resurrection of “Hot Key” shortcut keys, this time around, I would have to “mouse cursor” move to the lower right “keyboard”; then select it, and mouse move over to the left to bring up the symbols like the Degrees symbol indicating 15⁰, The Cents symbol ¢ and the Number raised to a power such as this 7². You can design and assign your own Hot Key codes like “Alt 2” to easily and quickly make any mathematical symbol that you frequently use available as just one two step code, such as 5². To design and/or save your own symbol code you can click on the keyboard symbol on the task Bar lower right, to gain access.
