WATCH: BIG FOX’s Frank Acomb interview with Allard

By Andrew Harris

Sheriff Allard makes a regular appearance in the BIG FOX to talk with host Frank Acomb about his work serving Steuben County.

Part of that interview offered an update on the ongoing legal battle with Steuben County. To refresh your memory: In 2023, Steuben County passed two local laws.  The first was to repeal the local law on the books which required the county to provide liability insurance coverage to the elected Sheriff Allard.  A second law was passed which required the sheriff to provide proof of insurance coverage to the county.  The laws effectively allowed the county to stop insuring the sheriff and force him to provide proof of proper liability insurance coverage.

Allard noted that the county has requested another extension from the court. Sheriff lamented that the case has dragged on and the county hasn’t decided to move forward. Allard has wondered to county leaders “What are we doing here?”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement aka ICE, has been the biggest news story in the nation this month since the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis.

Allard noted that he has agreed to work with federal authorities to avoid escalation and to protect Steuben County residents. Allard has talked to the regional ICE supervisor and has implored him to work with deputies. Sheriff walks a difficult line with protestors on Market Street in Corning almost everyday.

“I’ve been working with ICE successfully since the 1990’s”
