Statement Regarding Maduro Rendition from Venezuela

“If Congress does not reclaim its powers soon, especially war powers, we will be living the nightmare”

An OPINION by Jim King, moderate Republican candidate for Congress

Who is enforcing the law on the Executive?

I am appalled that an act of war within our western hemisphere is received with equanimity by so many of my Republican comrades.  There are over 80 dead Venezuelan soldiers and civilians.  There are several US casualties.  None-the-less, my Republican establishment describes the event as a routine law enforcement operation.  This is double-speak.  How did my law-and-order party become so desensitized?

Does the world want to regress to vying dictatorial empires?  Do we?

Normalizing the decapitation of a sovereign country’s government justifies Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, Xi Jinping’s taking Tiwan, ISIS establishing a caliphate, Netanyahu’s annexing the west bank, and someone deciding the US needs an immediate replacement of its President.

This opening salvo in Venezuela has the President’s stated end goal of the globe divided into a US controlled western hemisphere with presumably China controlling the eastern hemisphere.  Perhaps there is a carveout for Europe.  It is folly.  It is a nightmare.  Intimidation has limits.  Our southern and northern neighbors won’t be passive.  The US does not have enough boots to put on the ground.  Even if partially successful, North and South America’s history shows such a world order breeds oppression, perpetual internal warfare, and chaos.  America and the Americas become last, not first.

If Congress does not reclaim its powers soon—especially war powers, we will be living the nightmare.  Those currently in Congress that are permitting—even supporting— unconstitutional, illegal, and immoral acts in the executive branch need to be replaced.
