BELMONT, NY – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) visited the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County (CCE Allegany) on Monday, December 8, to announce $254,169 in Community Project Funding secured to renovate the organization’s longtime Belmont headquarters. Congressman Langworthy was joined by Laura Hunsberger, Executive Director of CCE Allegany; Allegany County Legislature Chairman Brooke Harris; and County Legislators Kevin Demick, Mike Healy, Gretchen Hanchett, and John Ricci.

This congressionally directed funding—secured through the advocacy of Congressman Langworthy—will support critical infrastructure upgrades to the CCE Allegany facility, which has served the community since the early 1980s. Planned improvements include replacing the building’s original roof and siding, upgrading windows and lighting to improve energy efficiency, and installing a new HCA-compliant access ramp to enhance accessibility. Once completed, the renovations will transform the facility into a modern, accessible teaching space that better supports agricultural education, youth development, and community programming.

“Cornell Cooperative Extension plays a vital role in supporting our local agriculture economy, preparing the next generation of producers, and ensuring that 4-H remains strong for years to come,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This investment protects an institution that farmers, families, and young people across Allegany County rely on, while expanding opportunities to learn new skills, adopt innovative practices, and strengthen our rural workforce.”

CCE Allegany serves as a cornerstone of agricultural education in the region, providing research-based programming through Cornell University, hands-on training for farmers and producers, nutrition education, and youth development initiatives such as 4-H that help instill leadership, teamwork, and life skills in young people.

“We are incredibly grateful to Congressman Langworthy for fighting to secure this funding,” said Laura Hunsberger, Executive Director of CCE Allegany. “These improvements will allow us to expand programming, better serve our community, and continue offering high-quality education for farmers, families, and youth. This investment ensures our facility can support agriculture, workforce development, and 4-H for the next generation.”

Local leaders praised the project as a long-term investment in Allegany County’s future, highlighting its positive impact on the local economy, education opportunities, and community partnerships.

The full $254,169 requested for the project was successfully secured, ensuring CCE Allegany can continue its mission of strengthening agriculture, developing new skills, and keeping 4-H accessible and thriving for generations to come.
