Ljungstrom statement: We anticipate a full factory for the upcoming calendar year

Last week Ljungstrom officials gathered the workforce at the Andover/Truax Road facility to explain a slowdown in work would persist through 2025. As a result many employees were asked to take a voluntary furlough which will allow benefits like healthcare to stay in place until at least early January 2026.

One of the employees impacted explained that Ljungstrom management told he and co-workers in a October 30 meeting:

They announced people were getting furloughed and they were cutting staff numbers in half. They told us expect to be back early to mid 2026.”

The voluntary furloughs would be up to 60 days and benefits like health and pension will remain intact for the two months. Those who accept a voluntary furlough will be eligible for full unemployment while retaining healthcare and pension benefits. This is an alternate “pause” on employment as opposed to a indefinite layoff or job elimination.

A work share option is available for those employees who do not wish to take the full furlough option. The option allows for a pair of employees to share a five day work week; one employee working two shifts, the other three shifts. Employees who opt for the work share option are still entitled to apply for unemployment insurance coverage for the loss of income.

Both the furlough and the work share option are indicators that the employer has intentions of resuming full-time work in the near future. Several reports we have recieved indicate that there are future prospects and the goal of the furloughs is to retain the workforce and to be ready to resume work soon.

LJUNGSTRӦM offered this statement on November 4, 2025:

“As we transition from Offshore Wind into new markets, we are experiencing a temporary gap in our order pipeline. With the long hours our people have worked over the last 3 years, we are providing the opportunity for individuals to take a voluntary furlough for the next few months. We are also partnering with New York State on a Shared Work program. We anticipate a full factory for the upcoming calendar year and continued growth through our diversification initiatives. We are excited about our future and remain committed to our people and the community.”

In late July of this year, Ljungstrom announced that David Moore had been named the new Chief Executive of the Wellsville operation. Read that full release from Ljungstrom:
