Dynasty continues: Fillmore boys and girls soccer reach Section V finals, both take on Northstar Christian

The boys and girls soccer programs in Fillmore have seen incredible success over the years. The teams turned the corner recently with state championships and state finals appearances.

Most schools, especially at the Class D level, have ups and downs. Not in Fillmore.

Once again, both teams are in the Section V finals and this year, both face Northstar Christian in pursuit of the championship block and fire truck rides.

GIRLS

The Fillmore Eagles opened the Section V tournament with a 2-1 win over a tough Batavia Notre Dame squad. 

Notre Dame came in 7-10, but most losses were to larger schools. The Irish downed Lima Christian 7-1 in the first round.

With the game tied 1-1, Morghyn Ross found Kallie Pastorius for the game-winner. Mylee Miller scored the first goal for Fillmore. Junior goalie Kelsie Songster got the win.

From there, it was on to the semi-finals to take on #4 Avoca-Prattsburgh. For the Eagles, it was a welcome neutral site, the turf at Wellsville. 

Fillmore dominated from the whistle in a 5-0 win, blasting 20 shots on goal.

Songster and freshman goalie Gabbie Fraser turned away three shots to combine on the shutout.

Ross scored two goals, Pastorius had three assists while Mattie McCumiskey, Abby Earley and Miller (assist) all scored. Grace Walson also had an assist.No. 1 Fillmore (17-1) will face No. 3 Northstar Christian (11-7) in the finals on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Perry.
Northstar needed penalty kicks to get past a tough Andover-Whitesville team in the Class D tournament. There is only one D class this season.

BOYS

The Fillmore boys entered sectionals as the #2 seed and dispatched #7 Honeoye, 5-1.

Isaac Wilcox scored two goals while Isaiah Sisson, Ezra Knapp and Levi Russell also scored. Brayden Walton had two assists while Sisson and Carson Sanasith had assists. Jared Boon had the win in goal.

That set up the rivalry match in sectionals with No. 3 Genesee Valley/Belfast. 

GV/B went up 1-0 in the first half but Fillmore escaped with a 2-1 win as Sisson scored two second half goals, one on an assist from Braylon Hatch. Boon had seven saves for the win.

Fillmore will take on #1 Northstar Christian Academy (16-2 ) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Perry in the Class D1 finals.
