The Village of Wellsville is proud to announce the next phase of its downtown revitalization efforts through the New York State NY Forward Program. This locally administered initiative will support a variety of small business and property improvement projects across downtown, including façade enhancements, second-story renovations, and new business equipment purchases to help local enterprises grow and expand.
“It is very exciting to share in the announcement of the award winners for the New York Forward Small Projects Fund,” remarked Village of Wellsville Mayor Ed Fahs!
“Our consultant, Stephen Barth, the Wellsville Small Project Fund Committee, Treasurer Mullen, and our local representative for New York State Homes and Community Renewal, have done an exceptional job in developing a matrix that enabled as many businesses as possible to benefit from the portion of the New York Forward Grant that was available for this purpose,” said Mayor Fahs. “We can truly be proud of the work they’ve done!”

A total of $389,090 in NY Forward Small Project Fund grants has been awarded to 16 projects throughout the downtown. These investments represent a major step in Wellsville’s ongoing transformation, preserving the charm and history of Main Street while positioning it for long-term economic growth and community vitality.
“Wellsville’s best days aren’t behind us, they’re ahead of us, and it’s already starting,” said Stephen Barth, Consulting Administrator for the NY Forward Small Project Fund. “This program is about investing in the people, places, and businesses that make our village special.”
The NY Forward Program, a New York State initiative supporting revitalization in smaller communities, has been the driving force behind what many are calling Wellsville’s renaissance. Administered by the Village of Wellsville, the program empowers business owners and property holders to reinvest in their buildings, create a more vibrant downtown, and attract new energy and opportunity to the area.
“I am so excited for the Village of Wellsville! What a privilege it is to be a part of this piece of Wellsville history! The passion and dedication of the residents and business owners in Wellsville is somewhat of an anomaly not found in other communities. A heartfelt “thank you” to the 449 Committee and Board of Trustees for dedicating countless hours to the cause,” said Melissa Mullen, Village Treasurer.
As the revitalization continues, the Village of Wellsville and the NY Forward Small Project Fund Committee extend gratitude to all who applied for funding, recognizing their shared vision of a stronger and more vibrant community.
“The business owners also deserve a special thanks for their willingness to get involved in the process, and think creatively with an eye towards Wellsville’s future,” continued the Mayor. “As we enter the implementation stage of the project, it will be very exciting to see how these funds will help fuel improvements and opportunities to help create even more pride in our downtown area!”
Now that 16 project awards have been granted, the Village will begin to see dramatic improvements to Wellsville’s downtown throughout the coming year. These improvements will include updates like painting, facade upgrades, new signage and other renovations to buildings on Main Street.
“Wellsville’s renaissance has begun,” Barth added. “The commitment shown by local business owners and residents has been incredible. Each improvement brings us one step closer to a thriving, beautiful downtown where people want to live, work, and visit.”
