Town of Wellsville Highway Superintendent Brian Smith confirmed that the recent closure of a main route over the Genesee River will be closed until about November 1st. The Madison Street bridge is getting new curbing and sidewalks, the first of three similar projects ahead in the village.

The Town of Wellsville is overseeing the work in the village because all bridge maintenance responsibilities fall under the town’s purview.

Wellsville based construction firm L.C Whitford is doing the work and also was awarded the contract to replace the curbing on the East State Street Bridge(next to Wellsville High School,) and the South Main Street Bridge(next to the Microtel). Smith indicated that the East State Street bridge will be closed for the work after this project is completed as to minimize disruption and inconvenience. The South Main bridge will be the final of the three projects and Smith was uncertain at this time if the work would be done in late 2025 or in early 2026.
