Deputy Mayor Ed Fahs will serve in interim role

The Village of Wellsville Mayor Randy Shayler announced that he will resign this evening during the regular monthly meeting of the Village of Wellsville. Shayler has held the role since 2016 elected as a Republican.
Before the meeting Shayler confirmed his plans to resign, effective 8:00am Friday September 12 and made this statement to the Wellsville Sun:
“Effective Friday September 12 at 8:00am, I will officially resign as the Mayor of the Village of Wellsville. My decision does not come lightly and I am pleased to be leaving the village in good fiscal condition and in responsible hands. Deputy Mayor Ed Fahs will assume the duties of the office until the board selects a new Mayor. The office of village mayor will be on the ballot in 2026.
It has been my honor to serve the Village of Wellsville for nearly a decade. Thank you to the board, village employees, and residents for your support and partnership.”
While Fahs will perform the duties of village mayor beginning this Friday September 12, the village board will vote to appoint the next Mayor. The board may appoint any legal resident of the village of Wellsville
Currently Michael Roeske, Jeff Monroe, and Gary Pearson sit on the board of trustees with Ed Fahs.
Shayler was first elected in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020 and 2024 as a Republican. In 2024 he was elected with 82% of the vote.
