Wellsville’s Iris Davis lands the biggest fish!!

The Andover Wetlands Annual Kids Fishing Contest celebrated its 34th anniversary with participants from Andover as well as Livonia, Addison, Alfred Station, Almond, Angelica, Arkport, Cuba, Wellsville, Belmont, Belfast, Bolivar, Hornell, Campbell, Friendship, Caledonia, Cameron Mills, Whitesville, Canaseraga, Cameron, Greenwood, and Jasper.
Special guests in attendance who assisted in handing out the trophies included,
Andover Town Supervisor Steve Martinelli along with Allegany County Legislator Gary Barnes.
Trophies were awarded in the following categories: 5 & under: First Place: Bryden Shephard of Jasper with a 1 lb, 1 oz. 16 inch Carp. Second Place: Oakley Faulkner of Wellsville had a 8 oz. 5 inch Sunfish, Third Place: Myla Hills of Wellsville with a 7 oz. 4 ¾ inch Sunfish.
Winners in the 6 – 8 age group were: First Place: Brenda Shephard of Jasper had a 1 lb. 6 oz. 16 inch Carp and Second Place Kiera Tierney of Wellsville with a 11 oz. 5 ½ inch Sunfish and Third Place Dawson Bergreen of Cuba with a 10 oz. 5 ½ inch Sunfish.
In the 9-11 age group: First Place Jack Kroll of Belmont had a 1 lb. 4 oz. 15 inch Bass, Second Place: Eli Johnson of Friendship with a 3.73 oz. 8 inch Bullhead, and Third Place: Amelia Wagner of Andover with a 3.17 oz. 6 ¾ inch Pumpkinseed.
For the 12 – 15 age group: First Place; Kaleb Clair of Arkport with a 14 in 1 lb 1.92 oz Bass, Second Place: Natalee Cornell of Andover for a 12 3/4 in 15.54 oz. Bullhead, Third Place: Matthew Bentley of Andover, for a 11 3/4 inch 12.11 oz Bullhead.

Trophies were also presented for Largest Fish: Iris Davis of Wellsville for a 19 ¾ in 3 lb. 2.56 oz Carp, Smallest Fish: Hayden Hanes of Wellsville for a 4 3/4 in .07 oz Sunfish. Most Fish: John Wlasniewski of Andover with 10 fish. Other categories were Largest Bass – Arianna Porter of Andover for a 2 lb 5.6 oz 17 in. Bass, the Largest Carp – Isabella Seiger of Cameron Mills for a 1 lb 14.72 oz 16 3/4 in Carp.
The annual Jess Present/Pat McGee Memorial Sportsmanship Award given in memory of the late Senators for their tireless work and dedication to the Andover Wetlands Project. Both the Senators were avid outdoors people and believed in the preservation of recreational habitat. This year’s winner, Jeffrey Seiger of Cameron Mills.
