Around noon today, the Wellsville Fire Department, Andover 602 and FAST 4 were called to the scene of a possible structure fire at the corner of South Brooklyn and West Dyke Street in the village.

The fire was in an upstairs apartment and may have started from cigarettes. The call indicated smoke was showing.

Firefighters went upstairs and stopped the fire immediately and additional response was canceled.

The Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps were also on the scene. No injuries were reported. Allegany County Fire Coordinator Bill Day was also on scene.

The fire took place when there was a lot of traffic on South Brooklyn. The fire police and junior firefighters from Wellsville had roads blocked and directed traffic while there was a large turnout of volunteers at the scene as well.

Check out this slide show of photos from the scene, many youth firefighters, veteran firefighters and four women who hold important positions in the department.
