Peas galore, many varieties of herbs, lush lettuces, currants, and “blackcaps” are all now ready for harvest at the community garden on Main Street Wellsville NY. The Fassett Greenspace, maintained by local volunteers, is ready for you and your family to visit and enjoy the organically grown gardens.
The flower gardens are always changing as new blooms arrive, please don’t pick the flowers as they are for everyone to enjoy.
Surrounding the William Underhill bronze water fountain are over a dozen varieties of herbs, from traditional basil, loads of dill, cilantro, lavender, thyme, and many more. Treat yourself to a self-guided herb tasting or grab a handful of parsley to compliment dinner.

Sugar and snap peas are at peak and perfect for showing kids how much better veggies taste when you pick them yourself. Please don’t pick anymore than you need so others can enjoy the same experience. *Someone recently picked a few quarts of peas and left them to waste in the hot sun. Whoever you are, please don’t do that.
A large bed of lettuce is at the perfect time to harvest! Enjoy a summer salad with fresh greens and herbs!!
Summer squash and zucchini are emerging and should be harvested at under ten inches of length. Cucumbers are just starting but grow fast and also need to be harvested young to encourage sustained new growth.
Along the back of the gardens is the fruit department and wow are the black raspberries, aka “blackcaps” having a banner year!! So are the white currants, a unique berry with bushes full of fruit. Grab a handful before they are gone!! Blackberries and Niagara grapes are also looking healthy but will be ready for harvesting later in the season.
The gardens are funded and maintained by Art For Rural America, a 501c3 non-profit that can always you your support to keep the space looking great and accessible to all. Visit them online to donate today!!
