Last year marked the inaugural Zucchini 500 at the Alfred Farmers Market, and it was a huge success. This year, Ryan Heckman will be bringing back his handmade track for the veggies to race on.  It is said to be the longest in the county! A special guest will be present to host the event.

Kids can pick up their kits to make their race cars at the market this Sunday, July 6th.  If you cannot attend, you can pick up a kit on the day of the race and build your car on site. Participants must supply their zucchini or other vegetable to be turned into a race car.  Creativity is encouraged.

There are three categories for participants to win a certificate in. They are the most Creative, the fastest, and the Judges’ Choice.  Zucchini-themed food will be available for purchase at the market.

The Alfred Market takes place on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Main Street in Alfred, in front of the University.  The Zucchini 500 will be held on July 13th at noon during the market.  The Ukuladies will be performing that day, and they are a local favorite.

If your kids haven’t joined the Sprouts Club, stop by the Activities Tent to sign them up. Their card gets punched each week for a chance at prizes.
