Despite the Irish Like mist, rain and cloudy soft weather in Andover, NY on June 14th, the local Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Irish Road Bowling Tournament was a success according to AOH President John Dean. “We had 51 two person teams compete in six categories and everyone had a great time despite the cool, misty weather in Allegany County. Our local AOH Division appreciates the continued support that we receive from the region for this major fundraiser which is a true family oriented event.

Everyone had a great time and we had many first time Road Bowlers who said they would be back next year! Everyone got a chance to experience real Irish like weather at the tournament””
On the road bowling course which was shortened by about a quarter mile this year due to a culvert washout on Kilbane Road, there was keen competition and two Divisions were won by throwing the bowl the longest distance past the Finish line area.
Two Teams-Shane Dunbar and Mark Joyce had a short course record of 15 throws and won over Ethan Bailey’s team as they threw 210 feet beyond the finish line to Ethan’s 30’ beyond the finish line. Team Joyce & Dunbar threaded the needle with their bowl passing through a narrow space between the 2 concrete barriers to get their 210 feet distance.
A similar result happened to Brielle Haggerty and Adeleine Brubaker in the 16 and under Division where they threw a 19 and Brielle’s final throw also went through the small gap in the barriers. Mark Joyce and Shane Dunbar have won the Men’s open Division for 8 of the 12 years we have had the tournament according to the AOH Division.

The Winning teams and official scores for the 12th Annual Allegany County AOH Irish Road Bowling Classic are as follows:
-16 YEARS AND UNDER-Brielle Haggerty & Adeleine Brubaker, Wellsville, NY-19 throws
-10 YEARS & UNDER-Mason Russo and Leo Cannon, Wellsville, NY 21 throws
-MIXED DOUBLES: Kavan O’Grady & Kelcie Little, Wellsville, NY-15 Throws-won on 40’ distance vs 30’ distance
