Two killed: State political leaders and spouses were targeted

From the NYS Democratic Committee:

Statement from Chair Jay S. Jacobs on the Recent Tragedy in Minnesota

“This morning, our nation was shaken by a horrifying act of political violence. Former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered in their home by someone posing as a police officer. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot multiple times in a separate targeted attack.

This was an assault on public service, on our institutions, and on the basic idea that Americans can serve their communities without fearing for their lives. We condemn this violence in the strongest terms and extend our deepest condolences to the families and communities affected.

There is no place in this Country for extremism, hatred and political intimidation, and we remain committed to fighting the forces that encourage and enable this kind of violence.”
