Allegany County Veterans will host “Resiliency” event at Alfred University

All area Veterans are invited to attend a speaking engagement and lunch with a decorated and storied member of the US military. SMSgt Matt Sheley has served multiple branches of the military, is a state police officer, and comes with an important tale of “Resiliency.” The speech, with a luncheon to follow will be at Alfred University’s Susan Howell Hall beginning at 10am.

SMSgt Sheley is currently in the Air Force Reserve, having served previously in the US Marine Corps. A full time Arkansas State Trooper in his civilian career. he had experienced a significant personal tragedy.  He will share his story and the struggles that he had to overcome.  It’s a story that highlights resiliency and rising.  Increasing resiliency and informing our veterans about available resources are cornerstone goals of the Dwyer Program.

Participation Procedure

To be eligible for participation, you only need to have served in the military, any branch, and have a DD214 (or equivalent) from your service. Whether one day or fifty years, service counts and makes you eligible for participation.

All of our programing is free for our advertised audience, Veterans Only, Veterans plus one, or Veterans & Family. Activities are not ‘first come first serve’, our goal is to ensure everyone has a chance to go to a scheduled activity. Requesting a seat does not guarantee participation in all activities.

We prioritize attendance based off the following list (in order):

  1. First time participants, Allegany County Veterans.
  2. Allegany County Veterans.
  3. First time participants, any NYS County Veterans.
  4. Any NYS County Veteran.
  5. Any Veteran.
