“This is the most profound revelation since Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring”

An OPINION By Frederick Sinclair

Can we all, for the time it takes to consider this message, proceed, setting aside political bias and rush to judgment, in favor of plotting a course to health and wellness for ourselves and generations to come?   ‘All righty then’, Take a deep breath and let’s get started!

In February 2025, by Executive Order, a Make America Healthy Again Commission (MAHA) was tasked with identification of causality and the recommendation of measures that will end the childhood chronic disease crisis in America. The Commission was to, within 100 days, present an assessment of how to proceed. Titled The MAHA Report , it was released this past week. Within 180 days, a Make America Healthy Again Strategy based on the findings of the report and subsequent research will be released that focuses  on  “ the main epidemiological trends related to childhood chronic disease in America, including obesity, diabetes, neurodevelopmental disorders, cancer, mental health, autoimmune disorders, and allergies.” The Report sets the overall scope of the work is set to:

  • study contributing causes including diet, toxic exposure, medical treatments, lifestyle, environmental factors, government policies, food production techniques, exposure to electromagnetic radiation and corporate influence or cronyism;
  • advise and assist the President on informing the American people regarding the childhood chronic disease crisis, using transparent and clear facts; and
  • provide the President, Government-wide recommendations on policy and strategy related to addressing the identified contributing causes of and ending the childhood chronic disease crisis.

There are 14 members on the Commission, which is chaired by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F Kennedy Jr. The full roster and entire 73 page assessment can be accessed by searching for The MAHA Report ,  or via direct link at https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/WH-The-MAHA-Report-Assessment.pdf

The Report reflects the stark reality of the rapidly declining health of American Children and clearly states : “This assessment establishes a clear evidence-based foundation for the policy interventions, institutional reforms, and societal shifts needed to reverse course.” The need for such action is undeniable. National health expenditures are predicted to grow at a rate double the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), there is approximately 73 million children (aged 0-17) in the U.S. with over 40% having at least 1 chronic condition and over 75% of young Americans (aged17-24) are ineligible for military service due to weight, poor physical and or mental fitness. Autism spectrum affected children at the rate of 1 in 10,000 in 1960, went up to 4 of 10,000 in 1980 and presently in 2025 is affecting 1 in 31 by age 8. Between 2016 and 2022 one million more children were diagnosed with ADHD reaching a staggering 10% of all children being affected. The Report zeroes in on the quality of food and sees “whole foods produced by American farmers and ranchers at the center of healthcare.” Ultra – processing of food (UPF), however,  is being examined as contributing to chronic conditions in children, with 70% of the over 300,000 branded food products, being ultra-processed, and providing over 50% of the calories consumed by Americans.  Other sections of the Report identify potential environmental factors and outline importance of understanding the factors, the types and rate of exposure and level of hazard, which enables determination of risk, estimating level of impact and mitigation strategies.

Success will hinge on being informed and shouldering our part in the solutions.  Resistance from several industries and entrenchment in social norms are likely to make facing and fixing chronic childhood disease difficult. The pressures will be immense. Failure, however, will not be an option if we stay in the Now; committing heretofore to this work at every turn. It is on behalf of our selves, humanity as a whole and the well being of our children and children’s children.

NOTE: Review The MAHA Report online. Prepare yourself for digestion of inconvenient truths and solutions as they are disclosed. This is the most profound revelation since Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring . Set aside petty differences on this intervention of chronic disease in children and stand in support of MAHA!
