The best viewing spot is the Legion parking lot, though the show can be enjoyed from anywhere in the village. - This year’s parade Grand Marshall is Belmont resident Jack Rahr, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 1956 to 1959. In 1958, during his deployment in Beirut, Lebanon, Jack was credited with saving hundreds of lives. He bravely pursued and apprehended a local fugitive carrying a live grenade, which he seized with his bare hands. Jack held down the trigger of the live grenade as he rode back to base with a fellow Marine. Together, they safely disarmed it—an extraordinary act of courage and heroism.
