Preservationists will meet at 6pm inside the David A. Howe Library

WELLSVILLE – The next meeting of the Babcock Movie Theater Preservation Society will take place at 6 p.m. April 30th at the David A. Howe Library for the purpose of distributing tickets for the upcoming fundraiser and discussing future activities.
The Babcock Movie Theater Preservation Society is moving into the fundraising stages of the project. After a successful meeting on April 15th, dozens volunteered to work on fundraising for the project. theater. While the group is planning to apply for grant funding for the project, the board has realized that funds will be needed for the grant process and other ongoing costs.
The Babcock movie theater has been a focal point of entertainment since it opened in Wellsville in 1919. A recent survey conducted by the theater group showed that the public is overwhelmingly in favor of reopening it for present and future generations.
At the April 30th meeting, the Fundraising Committee will continue its brainstorming for fundraising projects for the future. Also at that time, the 400 tickets for the first fundraiser, the Reel Pulled Pork Dinner. will be distributed to volunteers to sell.
At the meeting, volunteers will also be recruited to help with plans for the design and construction of the theater’s float in the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally Parade and the Main Street Festival Theater Booth, both in July. Volunteers will be needed to ‘man’ the theater table at the Main Street Festival during the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally. Plans for the booth call for showing a video of the recent tour and ongoing work. Information about the project will be available along with plans for the future of the theater. Snacks will be served, and historical memorabilia will be on display.
The theater group reel pulled pork dinner, for pickup only, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. June 7th at the Grant Duke Hose Co. on Stevens Street. The cost is a $15 Donation. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the theater society or by calling. 716-498-6543. Information is also available on the Society’s Facebook page. Sales will be completed by May 31st.
