A trio of Alfred State veterans, Ken Morris, Derek Cheasman, and Te’jaughn Clinton, join Joann Bloxsom, Mallory Short and H. Robert Budinger III on the new furniture donated by the Dwyer Program
From Alfred State College,
The Allegany County Veteran’s Dwyer Program has donated new furniture for the Veteran’s Lounge at Alfred State. The Veteran’s Lounge is located on the second floor (206) of the EJ Brown Building.
The Dwyer Program worked with Mattress City Furniture (Wellsville, NY) to purchase a new sectional couch for the lounge. Mattress City donated an ottoman to complete the set in the lounge that is open for veterans to relax, study, or connect in between classes and labs on campus.
Joann Bloxsom, Assistant Registrar and Veterans Benefit Coordinator, is excited about the new furniture. “The new couch is amazing. It instantly changed the look of the lounge. We are grateful to work with the Dwyer Program on this project and hope this is a start of a great relationship between our students that have served our country and the mentorship program available to them right here in Allegany County.”
The Dwyer Program honors the memory of PFC Joseph P. Dwyer and his legacy of service. The program works to empower veterans to reconnect with another to create strong bonds which foster hope and resilience as they transition from military to veteran life.
H. Robert Budinger III, co-lead of the Allegany County Veteran’s Dwyer Program, is a strong advocate for Peer-to-Peer support. “Veterans provide each other with encouragement, practical advice, and a shared sense of purpose. We are thankful for Joann Bloxsom and her advocacy and support of Alfred State College veterans and veterans in our community. We look forward to more partnership with ASC where we may further serve veterans.”
Veterans at Alfred State should contact Bloxsom to stay up to date on all the programs available to them at the college.
Budinger encourages any veteran or their family members to visit www.alleganyco.gov/salute/ if they have any ideas for future programs.
