Following is a list of public events in Alfred University’s School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division for the coming weeks. All events are free and open to the public. This listing will be updated regularly.
Black Glass Artist Series: Resident Artist Arthur Wilson. Demonstrations, February 18 and 20 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Glass Studios Binns Merrill Hall. Arts Speaker Series: Angela Washko. Lecture Thursday, February 20, at 4:30 p.m. in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. As a politically-engaged feminist media artist working in a variety of forms, Angela Washko is committed to telling complex and unconventional stories about the media we consume from unusual perspectives. Washko’s practice spans documentary film, interventions in mainstream media, performance art in virtual environments, net art, video art, and video games. Angela Washko is a 2023 recipient of the United States Artist Fellowship. She is currently the Catherine B Heller Collegiate Full Professor of Art at University of Michigan.
Alfred University Dance Theatre: An Evening of Dance. Alfred University Performing Arts Division presents an Evening of Dance February 20 – 22 in the Miller Theater at 8 p.m. Admission is free. This concert will feature new original dance works created by Alfred University students Alex Connelly, Grace Fox, Ella Genovese, Erie Hammond and Shirite Westreich; faculty members D. Chase Angier, Erin Law, Colleen Wahl; and the Alfred University Dance Residency Artists Remi Harris and Mark Schmidt. The works will be performed by dynamic students from across campus, with costumes are designed by students Veronica Burns, Ceci Wall, Ceal Grabner, Steph Vargas, Izzy Wachtel and Marcos Luley. The musical accompaniment is a mixture of original compositions for the specific dance works and preexisting music and sound design.
Open Draw: Brick Residence Hall, basement/ Weekly figure drawing session, open to all students and community. Fridays at 5:30 p.m. beginning the second week of classes and during the semester in the Brick Basement.
COMING UP
Artist Talk: Claudia O’Steen, 9 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, in Holmes Auditorium. The Institute of Electronic Arts and the Division of Foundations is hosting artist Claudia O’Steen who will be giving a public lecture on her work. O’Steen’s talk will include discussion of video, sound, and installation, as well as research methodology. Audience Q&A will immediately follow.
Echoes Of Being. The opening reception for “Echoes of Being” will be held at the Robert C. Turner Gallery on February 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view until March 8.
Echoes of Being is an exploration of the spaces where creatures — human, animal, and imagined — come together. This exhibition invites viewers into a realm of curious figures, each suspended in a state between familiar reality and the imagined unknown. Capturing not only the behavior but also the emotional state of being.

Threads of Her Story: Black Women in Art on view in the Robert C. Turner Gallery is a group exhibition celebrating the artistry, resilience, and narratives of Black women through diverse mediums.

Summer Experimental Print Workshop Exhibition in the Scholes Library Project Room. This exhibition showcases the creative outcomes of students, staff, and faculty who participated in the two-week Summer Experimental Print Workshop held in July 2024. Artists include: Chase Angier, Ellen Bahr, Katherine Callesto, William Contino, Donna Fierle, Maria Graziano, Lisa Greenberg, Susan Jamison, Walter Kreutzer and Phoebe Neubauer. On view through February 27
Distilling Placein Miller Performing Arts Center – Scenography Gallery – 1st Floor in Miller 2 by the Choral Studio. On view through March 12, 2025.This exhibition examines the intersection of place, walking, choreographic practices and digital imagery. D. Chase Angier distills hundreds of images collected from over one hundred miles of attraction walking in Paris, France; Homer, Alaska; Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee; and Los Angeles, California; down into twenty seven images. Using similar practices from creating site responsive performance works, Angier explores responding to site in two-dimensions with the support of the summer printmaking class, William Contino, Don Weinhart, and their team.
