By Scott Lewis Sr.,

Hello citizens of Allegany County! My name is Scott Lewis Sr. I am officially announcing my election campaign for a seat on the Allegany County Board of Legislators. I am running in District 3.

I am a disabled veteran who served eight years in the United States Army before having a widow maker heart attack at 27. I was medically retired out of the Army on December 27th 2013. In 2018 my family and I were rear ended by a drunk driver at two o’clock on a week day. I was trapped and broke both feet, also have a metal rod in my right femur. Perseverance is something that is apart of my core values. I was walking the day the doctors said I could put weight on my feet.

I am an unmarried father of seven children. Who are my reason for being. I am running as Republican my core values are more Republican than Democrat. There is something that I noticed here in allegany county. I see the democratic committee doing more for the community than the republicans. I am looking to change that.

Here are the issues I am running on. The biggest issue I see is that we pay taxes and a portion of taxes are budgetted to our sheriff’s department. Our sheriff’s department do not patrol the county or respond to 911 calls. There are many different entities to the sheriff’s department. How often do we see the sheriff’s department SRT team doing mass casualty exercises including local law enforcement and fire and ems agencies. We need to have communication with the citizens of allegany county. Our water rescue team through the sheriff’s department how many times have we seen them conducting training on the genessee river? I could go on but i will save it for the town halls.

The second issue is land taxes. Why is it we can only pay our land taxes once a year? Why couldn’t we come in on a monthly basis and pay 200 dollars or more instead of trying to save it. Saving money now a days is harder than it used to be. We also need to set up a payment plan instead of taking citizens properties. I was told by the chairman of the board that allegany county has enough money to give every land owner one year of free land taxes. So why are we not helping the land owners of allegany county instead of taking families homes.

The third issue is economic development. I believe if we build our small businesses that are manufacturers up they could become our big manufacturers. We need to also find a way to build up store fronts in all towns in allegany county. Another thing i see is there an allegany county economic development organization. The board of legislators have a committee for this. The only way this will work is if the legislators are given monthly reports. Also what funding is this organization recieving from the tax payers. Lastly we need to stop putting everything into one town over all the others. We have schools across this county that are closing because there is not enough children. We need to focus on bringing families to allegany county, as well as put more into tourism in allegany county. I will not be taking a dime from the tax payers of allegany county. All I am paid for being on the board of legislators will be given to accord business center to start a small business grant for new small businesses to help with start up costs. Advertising is key for counties anymore. We need to advertise the county for the hiking and camping also small businesses in our county.

I will be doing multiple townhall meetings for District 3. Will be doing two for every location to be able to reach all communities in district 3. Working on a schedule for all events. I will not be asking for donations or any funding whatsoever. My campaign is a grassroots campaign. I will be going door to door putting my infantry ruck marching to good use.

Thank you to all the citizens of Allegany County for making this county great, and I believe it will take all of us to make allegany county grow! I can’t wait to meet alot of amazing people!

Sincerely,
Scott J Lewis Sr.
District 3 election candidate
