Residents should attend with concerns over proposed solar “farms”

By Andrew Harris

Last month we reported that the owner of a long-standing Allegany County business, East Wind Nursery, was concerned about a potential solar project that would essentially surround her nearly five acre business property. Public meetings that will be discussing the project and the subject of green energy are next week.

The meetings are Belmont Town Board Monday December 9th at 7pm and the Belmont Planning Board is December 12th at 7pm. The meeting will be held at the town hall, 1 Schuyler Street in Belmont.

A recent plan for a large solar development in Amity, bordering East Wind Nursery, has applied for permitting from the Town of Amity. The town planning board will be first to consider the permit submitted by SOLAMERICA ENERGY, LLC for the project depicted below:

Lisa Clark-Shay, owner of East Wind Nursery, wants the public to be aware of the meeting and attend to support her effort to stop the development of the farmland surrounding her business:

I’m hoping to bring the community together to learn more about the solar farm that is possibly coming to our area, be aware of what’s happening on and near our farm land, the Genesee  River, and bring our concerns to the local government boards peacefully as new developments take place.”

If you can’t make the meeting and would like to have your opinion on the proposed project heard, contact the Town of Amity:
