Village of Wellsville Mayor Race: Initial poll results show massive Shayler lead

Challenger Marshall Green and incumbent Mayor Randy Shayler will debate October 10 at the Nancy Howe Auditorium
By Andrew Harris
We are gearing up for one of the most interesting elections for the village of Wellsville Mayor in about a decade. Republican Mayor Randy Shayler was elected in 2016 and was not seriously challenged for re-election in 2020. His bid for a third term as mayor of the largest community in Allegany County has been challenged by local activist Marshall Green.
Green has been in the news plenty over the last two years with legal challenges to both Allegany County and the village of Wellsville. Most notably, Green filed a petition against the village over his interactions with the village police force and open meeting laws:
Neither Shayler or Green have been actively campaigning in the village but that is expected to change in October. Shayler has been endorsed by the Allegany County Republican Committee and Green is running as an Independent candidate.
The Wellsville Sun is sponsoring a classic public debate between the candidates on Thursday October 10 at the Nancy Howe Auditorium at 7pm. The public is invited to attend and doors to the auditorium will be open at 630pm. Thank you to our friends at Pizza King and the David A. Howe Library for sponsoring this event.
This weekly polling of our readers is very general. While our poll dissuades repeat voting, it does allow anyone to vote, regardless of location. We will reset this poll every Wednesday morning and report the results along with any developments in the race thru October 30. You can vote in the poll each week here:
