New program mixes meals and music starting September 13
From the Allegany County Office of the Aging
A new form of entertainment is on its way to Allegany County via the Musical Memories Café, beginning September 13 and continuing on the 2nd Friday of each month.
The Musical Memories Café is a joyful and compassionate hour of shared musical experience designed to enrich the lives of caregivers and their loved ones with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other physical challenges, as well as isolated adults.
We offer a meal and live music to get you both singing and even dancing, bringing back experiences and memories for both the caregiver and their loved one. It is a time to socialize with others, develop a network of support, find resources and a community to feel a part of, with people who may be having a similar experience.
The event is free, and the music starts at 12:00 p.m., so arrive early and grab a good seat.
“Our vision is for the Musical Memories Café to become a gathering place for caregivers and their loved ones to relax, socialize, enjoy a meal, and great music. We want this to be an ongoing event that older adults will circle on their calendars and get excited for,” stated Jose Soto, System Transformation Manager with Ardent Solutions.
Inspiration for the Musical Memories Café comes from the West Falls Center for the Arts, which has operated their Café since 2018. “Friends and family sit together, remember the songs, singing, clapping, and even dancing,” said Carolyn Panzica, Executive Director of nonprofit West Falls Center for the Arts.
This program is made possible locally through support from Ardent Solutions, the Allegany County Office for the Aging, and the Allegany County Age-Friendly Coalition. Pre-registration is required by September 11, 2024, by calling 585-268-9390 or via email at programs@ardentnetwork.org. Save your seat today!
