On August 1, a few members of Allegany Artisans worked together to cleanup a portion of the Route 19 south of Belmont. Allegany Artisans has participated in the NYS Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program for a few years and demonstrates the group’s commitment to improving the community they live in.

Allegany Artisans is a group of artists that banded together in 1988 to help promote their art locally. Their main event is the Allegany Artisans Studio Tour where the each artisan opens up their studio to the local public. It takes place the weekend after Columbus Day. This is the 36th year for this well established event in Allegany County. This year, the event takes place on October 19th and 20th from 10 am to 5 pm. A few studios open on Friday evening, October 18th, from 5 to 8 pm.

The group represents a wide range of media that includes clay, metal, paint, fiber, wood, jewelry, and other media. Each year a brochure is produced containing a description for each artisan. It includes photos and directions to each studio. There is a map to help with navigating around the county and showing the location of each studio. The brochure is available by contacting the artisans at alleganyartisans@yahoo.com. Closer to the event, they can be found at local businesses and libraries.
