Smethport, PA – After a week off, racing began at McKean County Raceway. With near-perfect weather, six action-packed events were run off along with the crowd’s favorite autograph session.
Zain Harvey’s dominating season has been well documented, and his flawless season on Friday night wrote another chapter. Early in the night, Harvey of Eldred, PA, picked up his 5th heat race win at MCR. During the redraw, Harvey picked the number 3 pill, setting himself inside row number two for the feature event. JD Chamberlain and Bryson Hill started the Kane Stebbins Construction Rush Pro Mod feature on the front row. It only took Harvey 2 laps to have control of the lead. After a caution on lap three, the field went green to checkered to finish the event, with Harvey winning by a margin of 4.213 seconds. This was Harvey’s fourth feature win of the season at the fairgrounds. Steve Watson, Bryson Hill, and Larry Mitchell all had their best runs of the season at MCR, finishing in the top five.
Terry Mealy and Travis Asel started on the front row in the Beaver Trucking and Excavating Sharp Mini Late Models class. The point leader to start the night, Chris Whyte, found trouble on lap 1, sending him to the tail of the field, only rebounding to finish 8th. The story of the feature event belonged to Jesse Isadore of Smethport, PA. Isadore started 6th, and by lap six had the lead getting by Mealy. Isadore picked up his 2nd feature win of the season at MCR. Mealy had his best season finish at the track, coming home 2nd.
Trever Putt and Ridge Cobb led the field to green in the Nittany Mini Mart Mini stock division. Cobb never let Putt get away as he was all over the back of the Putt for much of the race, trying the bottom line, middle groove, and top line. Cobb could never get a run out of the turns to make the move on Putt. Putt of Portville, NY, led all 15 laps of the event, picking up his fourth feature win of the season at MCR by a margin of .902 seconds.

The McKean Trucking and PV Paving took to the fairgrounds next for the 20-lap feature. Clayton Tarabori and Chuck LaFleur started the event on the front row, with point leader Jeremy Wonderling starting 3rd. Wonderling of Scio, NY, wasted no time, and by the time they came out of turn four on just the first lap, he had the lead. Caution flew on lap nine after Randy Taylor made hard contact with the front stretch wall. With 11 to go after the restart, Wonderling pulled away from the field and won in another dominating win. So far this year at MCR, Wonderling has four wins, a second-place finish in feature races, and 4 heat race wins.

A pair of newcomers, Mitch Stiles and Jake Foradori, started on the front in the Costa’s Super Market Pure Stock feature event. Tim Steis, who started 5th in the feature race, made his way to the lead after just two laps. Zack Gustafson started the race back in 11th and, after a caution on lap 3, found himself right behind the leader Steis. Steis and Gustafson raced side by side for 6 laps before the yellow flew as Stiles spun out point leader Bruno Mowery, sending both to the back. On the restart, the battle was back on between Sties and Gustafson, with Gustafson taking the lead on lap twelve. After the two continued to race side by side, which seemed like all race long, Sties retook control of the lead, coming to the white flag. Sties hit his marks on the final lap and picked up the feature win on his first visit to MCR during the 2024 race season.

Khloe Griffin once again showed her dominance in the Troups Creek Kids Mini Stick class. Griffin picked up her fourth feature win of the season and her third heat race win of the season. Griffin now has a commanding 33-point lead in the division over 2nd place competitor Jake Skinner.
Next week, racing will resume with all 6 divisions competing starting at 7:00 pm. For up-to-date information, including points standings and results, check out our website at McKeanCounty-Raceway.com or our Facebook page McKean County Raceway.
