“The dog control officer will be following up with an in-person visit for anyone that does not return the Enumeration questionnaire beginning September 1st, 2024”
From the Town of Alma,
DID YOU KNOW? Pursuant to Article 7 of the Agriculture and Market Law, no person shall own or harbor a dog within the Town of Alma unless such dog is licensed. Such license shall be renewed annually at fees determined by the Town Board of the Town of Alma. Licensing ensures that all dogs have been properly vaccinated against rabies for the protection of both you and your neighbors. The license is most important if your dog is missing from your property or picked up by a dog control officer. The tag enables us to match the dog and the owner.
All dogs over the age of four months shall require a license.
A Veterinarian certificate showing current rabies information is required.
A certificate of spay or neutering must be presented to be eligible for the reduced licensing fee.
The Town of Alma is currently conducting a dog enumeration, or census. We would appreciate your help by completing an Enumeration questionnaire form no later than July 31, 2024. If you are a landlord and allow dogs, please pass this on to your tenants. Residents need to fill out a Licensing information request (Enumeration Questionnaire) form. Please be sure to fill out the questionnaire regardless if you own or harbor (in your possession) a dog or not. Please return the form to the town clerk by mail or in person.
The Town of Alma Dog Control Officer will be doing random road checks in order to ensure census accuracy after August 1, 2024. If at that time you have not returned your form or are found to be harboring an unlicensed dog(s), you will be subject to possible court fines per dog, along with a one-time enumeration fee of $25.00 per dog that will be added to the dog license base fees.
If you have any questions regarding licensing your dog, please call 585-593-4021.
The dog control officer will be following up with an in-person visit for anyone that does not return the Enumeration questionnaire beginning September 1st, 2024. You may either respond by mail or by dropping the form off at the Town Office.
Current Licensing Fees:
Spayed or neutered dogs $7.00
Intact dogs (non-spayed or neutered) $16.00
Exempt from fees if proper documentation is provided: Guide Dog, Service Dog, War Dog or Police Work Dog
Dog licenses are to be renewed annually through the Town Clerk’s office. They may be renewed by mail or in person.
***Current rabies certificate and spay/neuter certificate proof is required.
