Hornell’s Katlyn and Lauran Kelly win tiebreaker to capture women’s open

The results are in and Shane Dunbar and Mark Joyce have again defended their Mens’s open title in the Allegany County AOH Western New York Classic irish Road Bowling Tournament!  The 11th Annual Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Irish Road Bowling Tournament had 77 two person team entries at their Kilbane Road Course on June 8th in the Town of Andover, NY.  

Course record holders Shane Dunbar of Wellsville, NY and Mark Joyce of Andover, NY again defended their Mens Open title with 21 combined throws with their last throw 212’ 6” beyond the finish line.  “While the late spring weather was windy and clear, the combined scores of the participants were very competitive and we had many out of state teams from Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvannia, Maryland and New Jersey” per event co-Organizer Brian Cannon.   “In addition we also had Teams from Buffalo, Olean, Rochester, Syracuse and Elmira as our event draws many repeat teams as well as new event participants to our scenic corner of the Allegany County Wilds”.  Cannon also commented that “The West Virginia Irish Road Bowling Association wants to have Shane and Mark come to their Tournament due to their consistency and accuracy in our Allegany County Event, which I think they would do well representing our area.” 

The winning 2 person teams in the the 2024 AOH Irish Road Bowling Tournament are as follows::

MENS OPEN:   SHANE DUNBAR-WELLSVILLE, NY & MARK JOYCE-ANDOVER, NY-21 COMBINED THROWS

WOMENS OPEN:  KATLYN KELLY & LAURAN KELLY-Hornell, NY-31 THROWS-Won On Tiebreaker 133 feet beyond finish line

SENIOR:  GEORGE & JOLENE CRETEKOS-Farmington, NY -39 combined throws

MIXED DOUBLES:  CRAIG BILLINGS-Whitesville, NY & LINDSAY FRANK-Wellsville, NY-22 Throws-won on tie breaker by being 133 feet beyond finish line

UNDER 16:  PAYSON ROOT & KINLEY ROOT-Allentown, NY-22 combined throws

10 AND UNDER:  MASON WIESCZCYK-Wellsville, NY  & LEO CANNON-Wellsville, NY-26 Combined Throws

HIGHEST SCORE:  BAILEY WIESCZCYK-Wellsville, NY & JOHN CANNON-Wellsville, NY- 77 Combined Throws

Allegany County AOH President Patrick Dougherty was “very pleased with this year”s Irish Road Bowling Tournament and the number of participants considering the Wellsville Girls Softball team was playing in Long Island and won the NY State Championship on the same day as our AOH Irish Road Bowling Event.  We thank all the repeat teams for coming to assist our fund raising for charity and hope that the first time participants will return to our family friendly and fun Irish Road Bowling Event”

The Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernians now turns their attention to their 9th Annual “AOH Park In the Park Car Show” on Saturday, September 7th in Wellsville’s Island Park from 10 am-3 pm, which typically draws 200-250 classic cars and trucks to the Island Park Complex.
