Loving Dad, Businessman, Volunteer Fireman
Dale Young of Rushford passed peacefully after a long illness on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Flowood, Mississippi, surrounded by family. He was 71.
Dale was born on July 7,1952 in Wellsville, the son of Lester and Phyllis Young. He was a 1970 graduate of Scio Central School and a 1972 graduate of SUNY Alfred with a degree in Communications. On August 4, 1973, he married Grace Williams.
Dale had a varied career. He was a travel agent for Williams Travel Service. He owned several businesses including the Scio Hardware, Club Boomers and Neon Nites. Prior to his retirement, he was an oversized load pilot/escort driver.
He had diverse interests. He was a dedicated Volunteer Fireman, serving in the Scio Fire Department from 1973-2009 as Chief, President and Commissioner. He loved family fun at Rushford Lake where he eventually retired. He enjoyed providing “Disco Dale” DJ services for community events and parties. He relished taking meticulous care of his lawn and could be seen mowing on his tractor several days a week. Dale also had a great passion for classic cars and attending car shows. His family remembers his love, adventures and sense of humor.
Dale is survived by children Julie (Ben) Finnemore of Andover; Jason (Erin) Young of Charlotte, NC; and Jared (Sarah) Young of Las Vegas, NV; brother Dana (Ginger) Young; and sisters Deb Aumick and Dorinda Rulle; grandchildren James, Cole, and Lillie Miller-Young, Delainie Finnemore, Emma Young; Grace Young; and his partner Angela and her children Josh, Meredith and Sydney.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Josh and his wife, Patricia, for the comfort and care she provided Dale in his final days.
Dale was predeceased by his mother and father, Lester and Phyllis Young, and his son Jimmy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Scio Community Center.
